Oh, I am loving Kaakie’s new song. A fairly new female artist in Ghana with her own unique flavour. She is doing a great job and I hope she continues to excel. Hiplife has stagnated a bit and I think Kaakie’s brand may help to pump some life into the genre. If anything, it will encourage and inspire more women to enter the industry.

HELL (The Borowitz Report)—Word that the News Corporation chief executive Rupert Murdoch has filed for divorce from his wife, Wendi Deng, came as a “total surprise” to longtime Murdoch confidant Satan, the Lord of the Underworld said today.

“I am totally blindsided by this,” Satan told reporters. “He and I talk every day.”

Citing his long history with the media titan, the Hound of Hell said, “We go way back. I gave him the idea for Fox News. I told him to hire Roger Ailes. That’s why this is such a shock.”

A frequent dining companion of the Murdochs, Satan said he “didn’t have a clue that they were having problems.”

“I’ve had dozens of dinners with them in the Hamptons,” he said. “Did they bicker? No more than other couples. But they seemed to be on the same page about all the important things, like creating corrupt media monopolies and buying politicians. I thought they were for keeps.”

Adding that he “cares deeply about his friends,” Satan said the news about the Murdochs had hit him especially hard: “I was just starting to get over the Putins.”

The Prince of Darkness said he first got word of the Murdoch divorce about an hour before the official announcement: “My banker at Goldman Sachs called and told me to sell my News Corp. stock right away.”

Ha ha ha ha… Funny article. I can imagine Murdoch and his wife hosting a devilish-like figure at dinner parties. Although I am surprised that Murdoch would leave Deng. I mean this was a woman who was willing to defend her man with, her hands in the face of a cream-pie wielding maniac. That is the kind of woman you want to keep by your side. Well I suppose he knows what he is doing.

The look of incredulity on Megyan Kelly’s face as she listens to both Lou Dobbs and Erick Erickson stumble through their asinine and archaic notions of the role of women in the raising of children and the management of the household, it was priceless. Lol….

Watching this showed me what journalistic integrity is supposed to be. As opposed to the half-baked effort that Fox News often employs, which it likes to call ‘fair and balanced’.

Ms. Kelly went for the jugular on this one. Pointing out the absurdity of Erickson’s generalizations, which he tried to pass off as somehow being scientifically accurate. And the way she made reference to the vein of anti-miscegenation that ran rampant, prior to the civil rights era was sublime.

If only Megyan Kelly and Fox News in general cited credible sources more often, as opposed to playing to the unfounded fears of their base.

How did Sepp choose to introduce her at the initial news conference after she had been elected?

Oh Sepp, you do go on. They should take FIFA on the road, since it’s pretty much the best ongoing show available. Corruption, graft, awarding major tournaments to countries who have horrendous human rights records, and now we can add overt sexism to the list!

And I am certain only a few of the men in the room found this to be wrong. More power to FIFA for appointing a woman to its board, but there needs to be some major changes within that organization. For one, I imagine that like all male dominated enterprises the sexisms is rampant. As demonstrated by Monsieur Blatter’s tactless comments.

Well I suppose like the problem of racism in football, FIFA can resolve sexism by having women and men shake hands. Or perhaps if FIFA started a lingerie football league, women will finally get the equality and respect they deserve, as per the suggestion of Blatter himself.

Dahomey a West African Kingdom (now located in modern day Benin), founded in the mid 17th century, was reknowned for using an all female millitary regiment during its campaigns.

During interractions with french colonists in the late 19th century, they came to be known as the ‘Dahomey Amazons’, because they reminded the French of the fabled Greek warriors.

Both oral and documented history make note of the fact they were tremendously brave and vicious fighters. Apparently, upon first meeting them, the french legionairs were reluctant to use deadly force. Unfortunately for them, these female warriors were not so accomodating.

From the time of King Ghezo, who placed great importance on the army and increased its budget and formalized its structures, the female soldiers were rigorously trained, given uniforms, and equipped with Danish guns. At their height, the female troops numbed between 4,000 and 6,000 women, about a third of the entire Dahomey army.

One of the more famous warriors was Seh-Dong-Hong-Beh, pictured above grasping the head of a vanquished foe (A sketch circa1851 by Eric Forbes, when Dahomey used the female regiment in an assualt on a fort in Abeokuta).

I never knew of the history of the song ‘Sweet Soul Music’ by Arthur Conley. Not until a few days ago, when it came to my attention that it was heavily influenced by this song by Sam Cooke. Now I am not sure which I love more. ‘Yeah Man’ by Sam Cooke is not as upbeat and dare I say, not as catchy as Arthur Conley’s song, I really love its theme of exploring dance culture though. Contrasted with Conley’s iterration that puts a ‘spotlight’ on black music greats of the 60s. Love both songs, love them both! The mid 1960s were a rough year for black music, what with the deaths of two industry greats within a few years of each other.

Anyway, all I can say is Yeah man, I like good music!

I like the tone of moderation and the fact that no one is being labeled a terrorist as yet. However, I can imagine the folks at Fox News going nuts tonight, drawing all manner of webs and implicating all manner of individuals and groups. At the end of the day a clam and objective investigation will produce results and allow us to seek justice. Let us hope for an expedient resolution to this unfortunate issue.
